New Shipping Company to Operate in Northern Sea Route

  • Oberon Ltd., a resident of the RF Arctic Zone, is set to establish a shipping company to carry cargo via the Northern Sea Route in the Russian Arctic.

    According to the RF Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, the estimated cost of the project is 800 mn rubbles ($10.6 mn).

    The new company will focus on transporting cargo for infrastructure projects in the oil and gas and energy sectors in the Arctic region.

    The investor intends to lease and later acquire a 12,000 dwt 10,400 tons capacity universal dry cargo vessel it will name “Oberon” and have it modernized to operate in the Arctic basin.

    The ship will be registered in the Russian International register with Murmansk as a port of registry and is to start operating as early as by the autumn of 2021.

    The vessel will be deployed on the Murmansk – Arkhangelsk – Sabetta route round the year. During 2021, four voyages are planned, and since 2020 ten voyages are to be made annually.
