Container Traffic via Ukrainian Ports Declines in January 2021

  • In January 2021, the sea ports of Ukraine handled 75.7 thousand TEU, down 15.7% year-on-year.

    By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk during January 2021 handled 72.2 thousand TEU growing by 8%.

    According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 36.3 thousand TEU, down 15.9% year-on-year.

    Import decreased by 14.3% down to 36.7 thousand TEU. Transit container traffic via the major Ukrainian ports declined by 28.3% down to 2.7 thousand TEU. Cabotage was non-existent.

    Odessa handled 45.4 thousand TEU in January, down 22.2% year-on-year.

    Container traffic via Pivdenniy (formerly, Yuzhny) decreased by 7.4% to make 17 thousand TEU.

    Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 13.3 thousand TEU, up 1.9% year-on-year.

    Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) did not handle containers in January 2021.
