Container Traffic via Russian Ports Down 3.8% in January 2021

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in January 2021 decreased by 3.8% year-on-year.

    Export declined by 1%, cabotage by 7%, and import by 7.4%. Transit, on the contrary, grew by 63.2%.

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was down 2.4%. Reefer containers accounted for 12.4% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 87.6%. Imports made 52.6% of all the laden containers, exports 35%, cabotage 9.8%, and transit 2.6%.

    Empty container traffic decreased by 8.8%.

    The Baltic basin accounted for 47.1% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian sea ports in January. The Far East basin handled 32.8%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 17.4%, the Arctic basin for 2.7% and the Caspian basin for 0.05% of the total.
