Arctic Basin Ports’ Throughput in November 2020: Oil Products Down

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin ports in December 2020 decreased by 5.5%. Cabotage declined by 16.2%. Import surged 6.2-fold. Export remained much on the previous year’s level.

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in December 2020 amounted to 11.8%.

    47.2% of the total cargo traffic was crude oil, LNG accounted for 20.3% and coal and coke for 15.9%.

    The highest growth was in the ore segment (up 2-fold), piece cargo (+83.2%) and timber and logs (+58.8%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were other bulk (grab) (-72.7%), ferrous metals (-45.9%), and oil products (-34%).

    Murmansk accounted for 61.6% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in December. Sabetta handled 28.7%, and Varandey 4.2% of the total.
