During the year 2020, Russian Railways loaded 1,243.6 mn tons of cargo, down 2.7% year-on-year.
Coal loading declined by 5% down to 353.3 mn tons. Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important cargo in terms of volume, decreased by 10% down to 208.8 mn tons. Ferrous and manganese ore was slightly down by 0.4% to 119.7 mn tons.
Ferrous metals were down 10% to 66.4 mn tons, timber and logs down 3.1% to 40.7 mn tons, soda and chemicals down 6.1% to 24.5 mn tons, cement down 4.5% to 25.1 mn tons, ferrous metal scrap down 2.7% to 14.3 mn tons, and industrial and forming materials down 3.6% to 33.8 mn tons.
Construction cargo was up 6.1% to 131.6 mn tons, chemical and mineral fertilizers up 3.7% to 62.7 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw sulfur up 2% to 19.9 mn tons, grain up 28.7% to 27.9 mn tons, and coke loading up 4% to 11.2 mn tons.
Rail cargo throughput during 2020 made 2,544.4 bn tons per km, down 2.2% year-on-year.
In December, Russian Railways loaded 107.5 mn tons of cargo, up 0.3% year-on-year. Cargo throughput amounted to 226.3 bn tons per km, up 3.3% year-on-year.
