Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in October 2020 Up 2.1-fold

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in October 2020 surged 2.1-fold year-on-year. Export grew by 28.9%, and import was up 3.5-fold. Cabotage, on the contrary, declined by 3%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in October 2020 amounted to 0.1%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was up 59.3%. Reefer containers were non-existent in October. Imports made 69.8% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 18.6%, and cabotage for 11.6% of the total.

    Empty container traffic surged 8.3-fold.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 66% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in October. Olya handled 34% of the total.
