Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in September 2020 Down 1.4%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in October 2020 decreased by 1.4% year-on-year. Cabotage was down 20.2%, and transit down 55.8%. Export grew by 0.3%, import by 21.1%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in October 2020 amounted to 26.9%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure is coal, oil and products. In October, coal and coke accounted for 49.4% of the total volume, crude oil for 22% and oil products for 5.9%. Containerized cargo constituted 8.5% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the non-ferrous metals segment (up 3.5-fold), other bulk (grab) (+21.1%) and containerized cargo (+13.2%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were piece cargo (-40.1%), reefer cargo (-35.3%) and other bulk (suction) (-33.6%).

    Vostochny accounted for 35.5% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in October. Vanino handled 15.6%, and Vladivostok 12.9% of the total.
