Foreign Trade via Baltic Customs Up 16% YoY

  • Foreign trade turnover via the Baltic Customs made $32.52 bn in January-October 2020, up 16.1% year-on-year. During the 10 months of 2020, the Baltic Customs contributed 384.83 bn rubles (about $5 bn) of customs dues and tariffs into the federal budget, up 1.2% year-on-year.

    The number of cargo declarations issued made some 276 thousand, including 242.9 thousand of import declarations (-3.9%) and 33.1 thousand of export declarations (+22.8%).

    In terms of tonnage, over 24.9 mn tons of cargo was declared via the Baltic Customs, up 86.3% year-on-year. Import traffic was down 1.1% to 8.8 mn tons, and export surged 3.7-fold up to 15.9 mn tons.

    A significant share in the import volume was fruit accounting for 23.6%. Other top import commodities were polymer materials, ferrous metals, organic chemicals, and equipment.

    The top export commodities were fertilizers (35.7%), ore, stag and ash, timber and woodwork, ferrous metals, salt, sulphur, soil and stones.

    The major countries of origin for import cargo in the Baltic Customs region in January-October were China, Ecuador, Germany, India, and Republic of Korea.

    The top countries of destination for export via the Baltic Customs were China (its share made 25.6%), Brazil and Turkey.
