Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in September 2020 Up 10.1%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in September 2020 increased by 10.1% year-on-year. Export grew by 14.1%, import by 27.7%. Cabotage was down 22.8%, and transit down 42.5%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in September 2020 amounted to 28.3%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure is coal, oil and products. In September, coal and coke accounted for 53.2% of the total volume, crude oil for 20.7% and oil products for 4.3%. Containerized cargo constituted 7.6% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the non-ferrous metals segment (up 5.3-fold), metal scrap (up 2.4-fold) and other bulk (grab) (up 2.1-fold).

    The commodities that decreased the most were reefer cargo (-45.6%), timber and logs (-42.4%) and oil products (-39.2%).

    Vostochny accounted for 33% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in September. Vanino handled 17.2%, and Vladivostok 10.5% of the total.
