Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in July 2020: Coal and Coke Up

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in July 2020 increased by 9.8% year-on-year. Import grew by 2.1% and export by 11.7%. Transit was down 21.1%, and cabotage down 1.3%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in July 2020 amounted to 31.2%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure was coal, oil and products. In July, coal and coke accounted for 50.6% of the total volume, crude oil for 20.4% and oil products for 6.2%. Containerized cargo constituted 8% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the piece cargo segment (+57%), ferrous metals (+53.7%) and coal and coke (+19.2%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were metal scrap (-19%), ro-ro (-16.7%) and grain (-16.5%).

    Vostochny accounted for 33% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in July. Vanino handled 14.6%, and Nakhodka 12.4% of the total.
