Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in June 2020 Up 16.3%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in June 2020 grew by 16.3% year-on-year. Import surged 6.4-fold. Cabotage decreased by 23.2%, and export by 26.7%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in June 2020 made 0.1%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was down 29.9%. Reefer containers were non-existent in June. Imports made 42.1% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 41%, and cabotage for 16.9% of the total.

    Empty container traffic was up 6.6-fold.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 38.9% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in June. Makhachkala handled 35.3% of the total, and Olya 25.8%.
