Container Traffic via Arctic Basin Ports in June 2020: Empties Up 2.5-fold

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Arctic basin ports in June 2020 increased by 58.3% year-on-year. Cabotage, which accounts for the major share of the total, grew by 64.3%. Export surged 2.4-fold. Import was down 23.2%.

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in June 2020 amounted to 3%.

    Laden container throughput in the Arctic increased by 32.4% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 4.3% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 95.7%. Cabotage made 99.4% of all the laden containers, and exports 0.6%.

    Empty container traffic surged 2.5-fold.

    The port of Dudinka accounted for 39.3% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in June. Arkhangelsk handled 25.9% of the total, and Murmansk 24.5%.
