Container Traffic via Ukrainian Ports Up 15%

  • In January-May 2020, the sea ports of Ukraine handled 443.9 thousand TEU, up 15.4% year-on-year.

    By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk during January-May 2020 handled 355 thousand TEU growing by 5.2%.

    According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 206.6 thousand TEU, up 13.9% year-on-year.

    Import increased by 15.9% up to 217.3 thousand TEU. Transit container traffic via the major Ukrainian ports grew by 25.3% up to 20 thousand TEU. Cabotage was non-existent.

    Odessa handled 271.9 thousand TEU in January-May, up 8.8% year-on-year.

    Container traffic via Pivdenniy (formerly, Yuzhny) increased by 24.3% to make 104.4 thousand TEU.

    Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 67.4 thousand TEU, up 32.3% year-on-year.

    Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled 281 TEU, up 4.3-fold year-on-year.
