The St. Petersburg branch of the RF Main Department of State Expertise has approved the design and estimate documents for the mineral fertilizers terminal in Ust-Luga. The project was initiated by EuroChem, a major fertilizers producer in Russia.
The new terminal is aimed for loading export designated fertilizers stuffed in special purpose containers from railcars onto vessels, and unloading imported bulk fertilizers from sea-going vessels onto rail.
The terminal to be built in the northwestern part of Ust-Luga Port is to be developed in three phases. The planned capacity on completing all the three stages is 6.025 mn tons per annum and the target throughput is 5.55 mn tons per annum.
The first phase envisages the construction of Birth 1, railway infrastructure and open warehousing facilities. During phase 2, Birth2 and a roofed warehouse are to be built and the railway infrastructure expanded. The final third phase envisages the construction of another roofed warehouse and a conveyor system.
The project completion is scheduled for 2022.
