Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in April 2020: Oil products Up

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in April 2020 increased by 2.6% year-on-year. Import was up 12.4% and export up 3.4%. Transit declined by 43.9% and cabotage by 6.1%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in April 2020 amounted to 25.9%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure is coal, oil and products. In April, coal and coke accounted for 46.7% of the total volume, crude oil for 23.9% and oil products for 7.7%. Containerized cargo constituted 8.2% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the containerized cargo segment (+19.9%), oil product (+19.1%) and other bulk (grab) cargo (+18.6%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were non-ferrous metals (-66.3%), other bulk (suction) (-50.4%) and grain (-33.6%).

    Vostochny accounted for 35% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in April. Vanino handled 16.2%, and Nakhodka 12.6% of the total.
