The Government of Russia issued an order adding a project for construction of a lead and zinc concentrate terminal on the island of Yuzhny in Novaya Zemlya Archipelago in the Russian Arctic was introduced to the scheme of territorial planning of the Russian Federation in the field of federal transport. According to the document, the terminal capacity will make 360 thousand tons per year, Rosatom press office informs.
First Mining Company JSC, a subsidiary of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. (Atomredmetzoloto) discovered the Pavlovskoe lead and zinc deposit located on the island of Yuzhny of the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago in the Arkhangelsk region and is implementing a project for its industrial development. It is planned to create the northernmost mining enterprise in Russia on the basis of the Pavlovskoe deposit.
The Pavlovskoe deposit is a part of the Bezymyanskoe ore cluster located in the basin of the Bezymyannaya River on the island of Yuzhny, which includes a number of ore deposits (including Severnoe and Perevalnoe) and has a high mineral and raw material potential.
In the framework of developing the Pavlovskoe deposit it is planned to create priority infrastructure facilities including a pier to handle vessels, roads, heat and power supply facilities. The new terminal is expected to become an important step in developing of Novaya Zemlya and the Northern Sea Route, according to Rosatom.
