Russian Railways have reported a 16.2% year-on-year increase in rail container traffic in January 2020. All in all, 435 thousand TEU was carried during the period under report.
Laden container transportation amounted to 279.8 mn TEU, up 17.6% year-on-year.
Commodity-wise, containerized non-ferrous ore and raw supphurgrew the most, up 80% year-on-year to 512.82.2 thousand TEU. Chemicals and soda were up 43.8% to 54.9 thousand TEU.
Containerized timber and woodwork transportation increased by 4.9% up to 35.9 thousand TEU, paper by 4.1% up to 30.1 thousand TEU.
Consumer goods were up 22.9% to 29.8 thousand TEU, hardware up 18% to 23.9 thousand TEU, vehicles and parts up 14.9% to 19.7 thousand TEU, machinery, equipment and engines up 20.6% to 18.1 thousand TEU, ferrous metals up 22.5% to 13.7 thousand TEU, and non-ferrous metals up 27.6% to 10.3 thousand TEU.
Containerized oil products grew by 14.2% up to 6.6 thousand TEU, metal constructions by 35.3% up to 1.1 thousand TEU, other commodities and LCL by 20.2% up to 8.2 thousand TEU.
Chemical and mineral fertilizers declined by 7% down to 3 thousand TEU, and construction cargo by 5.2% down to 6 thousand TEU.
Compare to December, most commodities demonstrated a negative trend, with growth only in consumer goods (+3.8%), chemical and mineral fertilizers (+7.1%), paper (+2%0, and non-ferrous metals (+2%).
