Russian Container Terminals throughput in 2019

Container Traffic via Russian Ports up 4.8% in 2019

  • According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in 2019 grew by 4.8% year-on-year.

    Import container traffic was up 5.6%. Cabotage increased by 4%, transit by 7.7% and export by 4.1%.

    The Baltic basin ports account for the largest share in the Russian sea ports’ combined container throughput handling 2.6 mn TEU, up 5.2% year-on-year. Import grew by 5.6%, export by 4.8%.

    The Russian Far Eastern ports saw their container traffic increase by 6.4% up to 1.8 mn TEU. Import was up 8.7%, cabotage up 7.7%, transit up 8.5% and export grew by 2%.

    The Azov and Black Sea basin ports handled 779.9 thousand TEU, up 1.4% year-on-year. Import increased by 1.6%, export by 4.1%. Cabotage dropped by 91.7% and transit by 55.3%.

    Container traffic via the Arctic basin ports amounted to 159.4 thousand TEU, down 2.8% year-on-year. Cabotage, which constitutes the major share of the total, decreased by 2.9%. Import declined by 12.3%. Export grew by 57.7%.

    The Caspian basin ports increased their container throughput by 22.7% up to 2.5 thousand TEU. Import grew by 19.1%, export by 50.1%. Cabotage, on the contrary, declined by 15.4% year-on-year.
