Dairy Import Up, Meat Import Down

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service’s statistics, in January-October 2019, fresh and frozen meat import into Russia was down 4.3% to 315.1 thousand tons. Fresh and frozen poultry import increased by 7.4% up to 184.9 thousand tons. Fish import grew by 5.3% up to 338.6 thousand tons. Canned meat and meat specialties import declined by 2.7% down to 14.4 thousand tons.

    Milk and condensed cream import was up 16.5% to 151.6 thousand tons. Cheese and cottage cheese import grew by 11% up to 222 thousand tons. Butter import surged by 33.2% amounting to 94.7 thousand tons.

    Vegetable oil import dropped by 90% down to 2.2 thousand tons. Palm oil import was up 5.8% to 870 thousand tons.

    Apple import declined by 15.6% down to 788.5 thousand tons, and banana import by 4.8% down to 1.2 mn tons. Citrus fruit import was up 7% to over 1.14 mn tons.

    Raw sugar import increased by 16.7% up to 5.6 thousand tons, white sugar import declined by 4.9% down to 223 thousand tons.

    In October, citrus fruit import was up 12.9% to 137 thousand tons, palm oil up 9,4% to 112,7 thousand tons, fish up на 25,3% to 58,9 thousand tons, cheese and cottage cheese up 6,3% to 21,8 thousand tons, fresh and frozen poultry up 13,4% to 19,5 thousand tons, milk and condensed cream up 30,1% to 13,4 thousand tons, butter up 1,4% to 7,4 thousand tons and canned meat and meat specialties up 28,6% to 1,8 thousand tons. Import of other food product categories declined.

    Compared to September 2019, import of almost all categories increased, the only categories that declined were milk and condensed cream (-5%), white sugar (-67.9%), butter (-15.9%) and raw sugar (-25%). 

    Coffee import in January-October grew by 11.6% up to 183.2 thousand tons, while tea import declined by 13.5% down to 122.5 thousand tons.

    In October, coffee import decreased by 5.7% year-on-year and by 1.1% month-on-month down to 18.1 thousand tons. Tea import was down 11% year-on-year and up 2.5% month-on-month to 12.1 thousand tons.
