During January-August 2019, the sea ports of Ukraine handled 713.4 thousand TEU, up 20.7% year-on-year.
By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk during the same period handled some 553 thousand TEU, down 2.1% year-on-year.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 339 thousand TEU, up 22.4% year-on-year. Import was up 19.2% to 348.1 thousand TEU.
Transit container traffic via Ukrainian ports makes some 2-3 thousand TEU a month, during January-August 2019 it increased by 18.6% up to 26.3 thousand TEU. Cabortage was non-existent.
Odessa handled 470.94 thousand TEU during January-August 2019, up 10.8% year-on-year.
Container traffic via Pivdenniy (formerly, Yuzhny) surged by 87.8% to make 144.9 thousand TEU.
Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 97.5 thousand TEU, up 9.9% year-on-year.
Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled just 90 TEU, down 72.3% year-on-year.
