The 15 LNG tankers to carry liquefied natural gas from Arctic LNG 2 project will cost over 300 bn rubles ($4.5 bn). The topic as discussed during a session of the Russian state-owned VEB.RF Bank Supervisory Board.
“VEB partners in this project with Novatek and Sovcomflot. The overall cost is over 300 bn rubles. The new vessels with a high ice class are aimed for carrying LNG under the Arctic LNG 2 project. They will navigate the Northern Sea Route and, of course, must comply with the most recent environmental and other requirements”, said RF Premier Dmitry Medvedev.
Igor Shuvalov, Chairman of VEB.RF, said one vessel will cost approximately $330 mn, they are to be delivered by 2024.
He also insisted that vessel construction ought to be localized at the new shipbuilding complex Zvezda in the Far East. He added that at the initial stage Samsung Heavy Industries acts as a technology partner.
