Russian Grain Export Continues to Drop

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service statistics, during January-June Russia exported slightly over 10.6 mn tons of wheat and meslin, down 44.9% year-on-year. In terms of value, grain export dropped 33.5% down to $2.4 bn.

    Wheat import into Russia during January-June 2019 declined by 48 down to 98.9 thousand tons. Barley import was down 34.4% to 4.2 thousand tons, corn import dropped 23.1% down to 26.3 thousand tons.

    In terms of value, wheat import was down 18.8% to $23.3 mn. Barley import grew by 45.5% up to $1.6 mn, while corn import declined 25.9% down to $92.8 mn.

    In June alone, wheat and meslin export made 1.075 mn tons, down 50% year-on-year and up 7% month-on-month. In terms of value, it dropped 44.1% year-on-year and increased 3% month-on-month to make $228 mn.

    Wheat import in June made 11.6 thousand tons, down 66.4% year-on-year and down 20% month-on-month. Corn import dropped 80% year-on-year and 77.8% month-on-month down to 0.2 thousand tons.

    In terms of value, wheat import in June 2019 made $2.8 mn, down 54.1% year-on-year and down 22.2% month-on-month. Corn import decreased 50% year-on-year and 83.3% month-on-month down to $0.2 mn.
