Meat Import Up, Fish Import Down

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service’s statistics, in January-April 2019, Russia imported 133.4 thousand tons of fresh and frozen meat, up 8.1% year-on-year. Fish import was down 7.5% to 141.6 thousand tons.

    Fresh and frozen poultry import increased by 6.4% year-on-year up to 68.6 thousand tons.

    Canned meat and meat specialties import declined by 7.7% down to 4.8 thousand tons.

    Milk and condensed cream import was up 31.2% to 62.7 thousand tons. Cheese and cottage cheese import increased by 7% up to 84.4 thousand tons. Butter import doubled amounting to 39.7 thousand tons.

    Vegetable oil import dropped by 92.2% down to 0.9 thousand tons. Palm oil import, on the contrary, grew by 8% up to 361.7 thousand tons.

    Citrus fruit import was up 10.7% to 751.1 thousand tons, bananas import up 0.9% to 580.3 thousand tons, while apples import decreased by 9.5% down to 432.6 thousand tons.

    Raw sugar import increased by 29.4% up to 2.2 thousand tons, white sugar import increased by 18.8% up to 105 thousand tons.

    In April, the following categories demonstrated a significant year-on-year increase in import volumes: butter (up 3.2-fold to 10.3 thousand tons), raw sugar (up 2.3-fold to 0.9 thousand tons), milk and condensed cream (up 68.1% to 11.6 thousand tons), and palm oil (up 61.6% to 110.2 thousand tons).

    Month-on-month, most categories demonstrated a downward trend, excluding bananas, which grew by 2.9% to 153.6 thousand tons, palm oil (+89%) and raw sugar (+80%).

    Coffee import in January-April increased by 13.8% up to 73.5 thousand tons, while tea import declined by 8.66% down to 51.8 thousand tons.

    In April, coffee import made 18.9 thousand tons, same as in April 2018, and down 14.5% month-on-month. Tea import was down 4.1% year-on-year and up 27.1% month-on-month to 16.2 thousand tons.
