Russian Transport Sector in January-April

  • During the first four months of 2019, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system decreased by 0.4% year-on-year to make over 2.35 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, road transport accounts for the largest share in the entire volume with some 1.5 bn tons, down 0.1% year-on-year.

    Rail cargo volume remained stable amounting to 426.2 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 2% year-on-year to 399.9 mn tons.

    Air freight was up 3% to 0.34 mn tons.

    Maritime transport volume grew by 3.3% year-on-year up to 6.3 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume declined by 7.5% year-on-year down to 9.9 mn tons.

    In April, the only transport system segments that demonstrated positive growth were inland shipping and the road sector.
