According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB) statistics, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in January-April 2019 declined by 1% year-on-year amounting to 545.3 thousand mn units. In April, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles dropped by 2.7% down to 148.3 thousand.
“Market sales in April again struggled to catch up to the strong result achieved on year ago. Clearly, the market in its current shape is no match to the one we saw delivering consistent double-digit growth rates only 12 months ago”, commented Joerg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
Lada remained the leader of the Russian car market in April with its sales increasing 5.2% year-on-year down to 32.3 thousand units.
KIA continues to rate the second with its sales amounting to 19.8 thousand cars, up 1.2% year-on-year.
Hyundai remains the third, its sales declined by 3.1% down to 15.4 thousand cars.
Renault saw its sales grow by 4.9% year-on-year up to 12.5 thousand units.
Volkswagen rates the fifth, its sales increased by 7.3% up to 9.6 thousand units.
Among the car brands that demonstrated the most spectacular growth in April were Hyundai commercial vehicles (up 18.8-fold), Geely (up 3.6-fold), and Haval (up 2.9-fold).
The brands that saw their sales decline the most were Honda (-66%), Infiniti (-62%), Jaguar (-60%), Nissan (-55%), and SsangYong (-50%).
