During January-February 2019, the sea ports of Ukraine handled 144.8 thousand TEU, up 16.6% year-on-year.
By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk during the same period handled some 129.4 thousand TEU, down 4.7 year-on-year.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 68.6 thousand TEU, up 15.7% year-on-year. Import declined by 0.8% down to 60 thousand TEU.
Transit surged by 56.9% up to 6.8 thousand TEU. Cabotage made 9.3 thousand TEU, last year in January-February there was no cabotage traffic in the Ukraine.
Odessa handled 89.9 thousand TEU during 2018, up 1.8% year-on-year.
Container traffic via Yuzhny surged 2.9-fold up to over 34.8 thousand TEU.
Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 20.1 thousand TEU, down 2.9% year-on-year. In 2018, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration included the container throughput of Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port in the statistics of Chernomorsk. According to SeaNews’ data, Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port handled 20.7 thousand TEU in January-February 2019.
Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled just 18 TEU, down 92.6% year-on-year.
