Russian Railways have reported a 14.1% year-on-year increase in rail container traffic during January-February 2019. All in all, 48.9 thousand TEU was carried.
Domestic volumes were up 9.7% year-on-year to 301.2 thousand TEU, export up 10.3% to 192.5 thousand TEU, and import up 26.7% to 164.1 thousand TEU. Transit grew the most, by 23.2% up to 80.3 thousand TEU.
Laden container traffic amounted to 738 thousand TEU, up 14.7% year-on-year.
Commodity-wise, containerized timber and woodwork grew the most, up 43% year-on-year to 70.2 thousand TEU. Construction cargo increased by 38.2% to 13.9 thousand TEU.
Industrial goods were up 10.5% to 46.7 thousand TEU, cars and vehicles up 10.7% to 35.5 thousand TEU, hardware up 10.6% to 41.7 thousand TEU, paper up 10.1% to 54.1 thousand TEU, chemicals and soda were up 7% to 78.2 thousand TEU.
Containerized ferrous metals grew by 22.7% up to 21 thousand TEU, machinery, equipment and engines increased by 8.7% up to 31.1 thousand TEU. LCL and ‘other’ commodities were up 23.7% to 14.6 thousand TEU.
Chemical and mineral fertilizers were down 30.3% to 7 thousand TEU, non-ferrous metals declined by 7.7% down to 16.3 thousand TEU.
In February, Russian Railways carried 243 thousand TEU, up 9.8% year-on-year and up 2.1% month-on-month.
