Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 52, 2018

  • Holidays are finally over and market players in the Sea of Azov are slowly back on track to usual working attitude, according to Rufco shipbrokers.

There are several news, which might have potential impact over the market in the nearest future. The first one is, ice class Ice 1 is required for calling at Azov Sea river ports since January 11-12, 2019.

The second one is quite a sad one – due to the fatal accident with mv “Volgobalt 214” players expect severe attention from PSC to all non-IACS vessels, especially to elderly ships.

This indeed may increase freight levels and/or transfer some cargoes like coal to deep sea ports.

Freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $28-30 per ton.

Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $26-28 per ton.

In the Caspian Sea, there are no significant changes, the market continues drifting sideways.

The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran remain at $44-46 per ton.

Please note that the rates cited in this article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and cannot be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration proceedings.
