Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 47, 2018

  • In the Sea of Azov, Azov, Rostov and Taganrog ports have declared the start of the Ice Campaign as from November 26.

According to Rufco shipbrokers, the market is full of grain, coal and steel orders. Bearing in mind the start of the Ice Campaign, owners are asking at least $30 pmt toward Marmara, however charterers are entering market with much lesser figures – something like USD mid 20’s.

So, the gap in ideas is substantial, but fixing figures in the end are on owners’ side.

According to Rufco, freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $28-30 per ton.

Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $26-28 per ton.

In the Caspian, the rush continues. Plenty of grain orders ex Astrakhan and Aktau keep the freight market here alive.

River navigation is about to close by the end of this week, so tonnage repositioning between the Caspian and the Azov seas (and vice versa) is almost over now.

The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran remain at $45-50 per ton.

Please note that the rates cited in this article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and cannot be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration proceedings.
