Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 45, 2018

  • In the Sea of Azov, trade activity severely halted by Global Grain event in Geneva.

The rest of the week is promising to be relatively quiet, according to Rufco shipbrokers.

Surprisingly, grain and coal cargoes in conjunction with weather delays have finally managed to stop market dive, at least for a while.

On the other hand, weather forecast has changed again and it is expected that next week would be quite snowy and icy in Rostov.

According to Rufco, freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $28-29 per ton.

Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $26-27 per ton.

In the Caspian, owners are asking additional surcharge for trade to Iran in the conditions of the sanctions imposed. Not so many vessels can afford the risk of continuing to trade in this direction.

This situation is leading to substantial gap between owners’ ideas and levels proposed by charterers.

The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran remain at $43-48 per ton.

Please note that the rates cited in this article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and cannot be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration proceedings.
