Russian Transport Sector in January-September

  • During January-September 2018, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system grew 5.4% year-on-year to make some 5.98 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, road transport accounts for the largest share in the entire volume with 4.05 bn tons, up 6.9% year-on-year.

    Rail cargo volume increased 2.7% up to 966.6 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was up 3.3% to 862.7 mn tons.

    Air freight increased 2.6% down to 0.8 mn tons.

    Maritime transport volume declined 18.6% down to 15.3 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume was also down 3.3% to 83.8 mn tons.

    In September, rail and inland shipping volumes grew month-on-month.
