Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 44, 2018

  • In the Sea of Azov market, freight rates lost a dollar during the past week.

Grain trade is not so active as a month before, and neither are coal shipments.

During this autumn lull, one should not forget about that ice campaign which is just one month ahead and which is going to limit the number of vessels capable to operate in ice conditions.

According to Rufco shipbrokers, freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $29-30 per ton.

Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $27-28 per ton.

In the Caspian, the lack of available tonnage is catalyzing further rates growth in all ports in the Caspian region and Volga ports.

The new US sanctions, which come into force as from November 4, may relate to limitation of port operators, shipping, shipbuilding and financing. How it is going to affect the shipping industry in the region, we will see quite soon.

The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran remain at $39-42 per ton.

Please note that the rates cited in this article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and cannot be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration proceedings.
