Rail and Road Traffic Up, Sea and River Freight Down

  • During January-August 2018, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system grew 5.7% year-on-year to make some 5.2 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, road transport accounts for the largest share in the entire volume with 3.5 bn tons, up 7.3% year-on-year.

    Rail cargo volume increased 2.9% up to 861.5 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was up 3.3% to 771.1 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume were down 1.7% to 69.3 mn tons, and maritime transport volume down 19.3% down to 13.4 mn tons.

    Air freight was stable at 0.7 mn tons.

    In August transportation volumes by all transport modes grew month-on-month except for pipeline and inland shipping.
