Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 37, 2018

  • The situation with phytosanitary certificates persists and has already started to hamper cargo delivery to STS operations at port Kavkaz roads.

According to Rufco shipbrokers, there are voices who believe that this situation could severely reduce volume of cargo transshipped via Kavkaz roads.

Azov sea freight is slowly continuing to rise despite the strengthening of the Russian national currency. Shipowners are reporting about some ease of the inspection regime in the Kerch Straight for vessels heading to Russian Azov ports.

Freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $31-32 per ton.

Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $29-30 per ton.

Freight rates in the Caspian region are not getting brisker paces. Freight for Iranian tonnage is getting lower and lower but when an IACS vessel is needed for shipments ex Astrakhan owners are reluctant to discuss something lower than low USD 30’s.

Caspian region is absolutely stable, no changes in shipped cargo volumes or freight rates.

The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran remain at $25-29 per ton.

Please note that the rates cited in this article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and cannot be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration proceedings.
