During January-August 2018, the sea ports of Ukraine handled over 528.5 thousand TEU.
It is 40.8% above the result for the same period of 2017 and slightly exceeds container throughput via Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, which handled 520.6 thousand TEU.
It is worth noting that in 2017, the Sea Ports Administration did not include the container throughput of Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port in its statistics.
According to SeaNews’ data, Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port handled 78.3 thousand TEU in January-August this year, up 0.9% compared to the same period of 2017.
Export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 249.3 thousand TEU, up 56.9% year-on-year. Import grew 34.4% up to 259.4 thousand TEU.
Transit dropped 10.5% down to 19.7 thousand TEU. Cabotage was non-existent, while in January-August 2017 it made some 1.4 thousand TEU.
Odessa handled 383.4 thousand TEU during January-August 2018, up 15.1% year-on-year.
Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 78.3 thousand TEU compared to just 6 TEU in January-August 2017.
Yuzhny also grew – up 57.9% to 66.4 thousand TEU.
Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled 317 TEU increasing its last year’s January-August result 9.1-fold.
