Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 38, 2018

  • The situation in the Sea of Azov is similar to the previous week, owners prefer to wait while the market is continuing to rise.

It is really hard to find a vessel for September shipments, according to Rufco shipbrokers, owners are just willing to know the ideas but not giving their vessels firm.

Another point is the recent complains about delays in issue of phytosanitary certificates. Some market players inform that delays might be up to 3 days.

These delays together with the time spent for Kerch Strait inspections form additional voyage idling time, which indeed is going to seek compensation by freight rates.

Freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $27-28 per ton.

Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $25-26 per ton.

Freight rates in the Caspian region are not getting brisker paces. Freight for Iranian tonnage is getting lower and lower but when an IACS vessel is needed for shipments ex Astrakhan owners are reluctant to discuss something lower than low USD 30’s.

The majority of Russian flagged vessels prefer to get involved in cargoes ex Volga river due to higher voyage results.

The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran remain at $25-29 per ton.

Please note that the rates cited in this article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and cannot be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration proceedings.
