According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB) statistics, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in January-July 2018 grew 17% year-on-year to exceed 992.7 thousand units.
In July, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles increased by 10.6% and amounted to 143.5 thousand units.
“No fundamental change in July – market sales continue to recover at a comfortable double-digit pace, for the 15th consecutive month now. Main driver of growth remains the continuous positive trend in consumer confidence, encouraging customers to finally exchange their older car for a new one”, commented Joerg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
Lada remained the leader of the Russian car market in July with its sales growing 10.9% year-on-year up to 29.4 thousand units.
KIA continues to rate the second with its sales up 14.3% to 18.5 thousand cars.
Hyundai remains the third increasing its sales 20.2% up to 14.4 thousand cars.
Renault saw its sales decline 4.2% year-on-year to 10.5 thousand units, this brand rates the fourth.
Volkswagen is in the fifth position with its sales amounting to 9.7 thousand units, up 21.9% year-on-year.
Among the car brands that demonstrated the most spectacular growth in July were Zotye (up 4.8-fold), Honda (up 4.2-fold), HTM (up 3.5-fold), Iveco commercial vehicles (up 3.1-fold), Genesis (up 3.1-fold), FAW (up 2.6-fold), DFM (up 2.6-fold), Mitsubishi (up 2.3-fold), Chrysler (up 2-fold) and Hyundai commercial vehicles (up 2-fold).
The brands that saw their signs decline the most were FIAT commercial vehicles (-70%), smart (-61%), Isuzu commercial vehicles (-48%) and SsangYong (-33%).
