During January-February 2018, the sea ports of Ukraine handled 124.2 thousand TEU, up 35.9% year-on-year.
By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk handled more than 135.7 thousand TEU during the same period.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, export container traffic via the countries ports made some 59.3 thousand TEU, up 52.1% year-on-year. Import grew 27.2% up to 60.6 thousand TEU.
Transit declined 8.6% to 4.4 thousand TEU. Cabotage was non-existent.
Odessa handled 91.6 thousand TEU in January-February 2018, up 14.6% year-on-year.
Yuzhny also grew – up 1.7% to 11.7 thousand TEU.
Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 20.7 thousand TEU compared to just 2 TEU in January-February 2017. The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority has included in the statistics for Chernomorsk the throughput via the terminal operated by Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port, which previously was accounted separately. According to SeaNews’ data, Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port handled in January-February 20.7 thousand TEU, up 10.7% year-on-year.
Olvia Specialized Sea Port (former Oktyabrsk) handled 243 TEU increasing its last year’s January-February result 34.7-fold.
