In January 2018, Ukrainian ports handled 47.2 thousand TEU. This volume is 16.2% above the result for January 2017 and, by way of comparison, 29.1% below the container throughput via Russia’s major Black Sea port Novorossiysk.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via Ukrainian sea ports made 19.9 thousand TEU, up 13.2% year-on-year.
Import was up 20.1% to 24.9 thousand TEU and transit up 3.4% to 2.3 thousand TEU. No cabotage containers were carried via Ukrainian ports in January.
Odessa handled 41.6 thousand TEU in January 2018, up 18% year-on-year.
Yuzhny, on the contrary, declined slightly 0.5% down to 5.3 thousand TEU.
Olvia (previously known as Oktyabrsk) surged 34.7-fold to 243 TEU.
Chernomorsk (formerly, Ilyichevsk) did not handle containers in January, according to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration.
However, there is another container operator in Ilyichevsk, Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Ports. According to SeaNews’ data, it handled 10.5 thousand TEU in January, 8.6% above the January 2016 result.
