Sovcomflot Gives Name to Standby Vessel

  • Sovcomflot has held a naming ceremony for its new multifunctional icebreaking standby vessel in St. Petersburg. The vessel built at Arctech Helsinki was named “Yevgeny Primakov” as a tribute to the renowned Russian politician and diplomat, former minister of foreign affairs.

    The ceremony was attended by RF Vice Premier Dmitry Rogozin, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg Sergey Movchan, Deputy Minister of transport Viktor Olersky, Sakhalin Energy Director, Production Ole Myklestad, United Shipbuilding Corp. President Alexey Rakhmanov, Sovcomflot Chairman of the Board and CEO Sergey Frank, and the family of Yevgeny Primakov.

    “My grandfather would have been pleased to have a vessel of this class named in his honour. It would have been important for him that the ship will work at the very geopolitical forefront”, Yevgeny Primakov’s grandson, also Yevgeny Primakov, commented.

    The vessel with its home port in St. Petersburg will operate on the Sakhalin shelf. “Yevgeny Primakov” has left St. Petersburg today to reach Sakhalin in March using the southern route via the Suez.

    • Breadth – 21 m
    • Deadweight – 3,670 tons
    • Draft (loading) – 7.9 m
    • Speed – 15.5 knots.

    “Yevgeny Primakov” can accommodate 70 people in addition to its crew of 26 in a normal mode, and up to 150 people in caes of emergency.

    The vessel can operate in the ice up to 1.5 m thick covered with snow up to 20 cm thick.
