As for 11 months of 2017, the transportation of loaded large-tonnage containers along the network of Russian railways amounted to 2396.3 thousand TEU. This is a 23.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
Transportation of containers in domestic traffic increased by 7.8%, to 829.56 thousand TEU. Exports increased by 17% to 760.6 thousand TEU, imports — by 46.5% to 489.6 thousand TEU, transit – by 67.7% to 316.5 thousand TEU.
According to the operative data of JSC Russian Railways, the highest increase of 2.6 times was noted in transportation in containers of agricultural machinery – to 10.6 thousand TEU.
Also, the transportation of cars increased significantly compared to the previous year figure — by 56.8% to 165.7 thousand TEU, transportation of industrial goods in containers was up 48.1% (to 234.4 thousand TEU), chemical and mineral fertilizers – up 45.2% (to 51,6 thousand TEU), machines, machine tools and engines — up 44,1% (to 160,3 thousand TEU). Transportation of hardware grew 45.9% year-on-year to 212.9 thousand TEU.
In January-November 2017, rail transportation in containers of chemicals and soda increased by 13.2% (to 369.8 thousand TEU), paper — by 6.1% (to 263 thousand TEU), timber and logs — 28.9% (up to 246.2 thousand TEU), and construction cargo – by 3.7% (up to 80.7 thousand TEU). During the period under report, transportation of non-ferrous and ferrous metals grew 8.9% (to 102.4 thousand TEU) and by 28.5% (to 95.3 thousand TEU) respectively.
Volume of scrap metal transported along the network of Russian Railways in January-November 2017 amounted to 21.7 thousand TEU, up 13% year-on-year.
In November, the transportation of loaded large-capacity containers along the network of Russian Railways amounted to 232.6 thousand TEU — up 18.7% compared to November 2016. However, it decreased by 3.8% compared to October 2017.
