Container Traffic via Arctic Basin Ports in November 2021 Up 3.9%

  • The total container throughput via the Arctic basin ports in November 2021 increased by 3.9% year-on-year.

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, cabotage, which accounts for the major share of the total, grew by 4.4%. Export was up 85.7%. Import, on the contrary, declined by 27.7%.

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in November 2021 amounted to 3.5%.

    Laden container throughput in the Arctic increased by 10.3% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 7.4% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 92.6%. Cabotage made 98.2% of all the laden containers, imports 1.6%, exports 0.2%.

    Empty container traffic declined by 8.3%.

    The port of Dudinka accounted for 38% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in November. Murmansk handled 23.3% of the total, and Arkhangelsk 19.5%.
