Russia’s First LNG Bunkering Barge to Operate in the Baltic

  • The construction of Russia’s first bunkering barge named “Dmitry Mendeleyev” after the great Russian chemist has been completed, Gazprom neft has announced.

The vessel is to embark on its maiden voyage to the Baltic shortly.

The company intends to start deploying the barge to supply LNG to cargo and passenger ships in St. Petersburg, Ust-Luga, Primorsk, Vyborg and Kaliningrad later this year.

The 100 m LOA, 19 m beam barge has a capacity of 5,800 cubic meters and an Arc4 ice class notation, which allows it to operate in one-year ice up to 0.8 meter thick.

The “Dmitry Mendeleyev” project makes use of state of the art shipbuilding and LNG transportation technologies and complies with the most stringent environmental standards.

The integrated digital system makes it possible for one person to navigate the vessel from the bridge.
