Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput in October 2021: Coal and Coke Up

  • The total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in October 2021 increased by 0.6% year-on-year. Export grew by 0.4%, import was up 8.1% and transit up 15.8%. Cabotage, on the contrary, declined by 34.4%.

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in October 2021 amounted to 30.8%.

    More than half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 30.9% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 21.1%. Coal and coke amount to 15.3%. Grain constituted 15% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the sugar segment (up 4.6-fold), coal and coke (+66.2%), Ro-Ro (+56,4%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were other bulk (grab) (-61.5%), metal scrap (-59.2%) and grain (-40%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 55.4% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in October. Taman handled 16%, and port Tuapse 9.2% of the total.
