Container Traffic via Russian Ports Up 8.1% in September 2021

  • According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in September 2021 increased by 8.1% year-on-year.

    Cabotage grew by 1.2%, import by 4.1%, export was up 6.1%, and transit surged 3.8-fold.

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was up 14%. Reefer containers accounted for 8.5% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 91.5%. Imports made 47.8% of all the laden containers, exports 35.8%, cabotage 11.2%, and transit 5.2%.

    Empty container traffic declined by 12.5%.

    The Baltic basin accounted for 44.9% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian sea ports in September. The Far East basin handled 39.8%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 12.1%, the Arctic basin for 3.2% and the Caspian basin for 0.05% of the total.
