Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in August 2021 Down 20.2%

  • According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in August 2021 declined by 20.2% year-on-year.

    Cabotage decreased by 15%, and export dropped by 66.4%. Import, on the contrary, grew by 24.4%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in August 2021 amounted to 0.05%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was up 1.8%. Reefer containers were non-existent in August 2021. Imports made 90.8% of all the laden containers, cabotage accounted for 8.1%, and exports for 1.2% of the total.

    Empty container traffic declined by 56.9%.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 70.5% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in August. Olya handled 29.5% of the total.
