Container Traffic via Ukrainian Ports Declines in January-July 2021

  • During January-July 2021, the sea ports of Ukraine handled 587.1 thousand TEU, down 2.9% year-on-year.

    By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk during the same period handled 508.4 thousand TEU growing by 11.1%.

    According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 277.5 thousand TEU, down 1.6% year-on-year. Import decreased by 2.2% down to 286.9 thousand TEU. Transit container traffic via the major Ukrainian ports declined by 22.7% down to 18.4 thousand TEU. Cabotage made 2 TEU.

    Odessa handled 388.8 thousand TEU in January-July, up 4.4% year-on-year.

    Container traffic via Pivdenniy (formerly, Yuzhny) decreased by 17.3% to make 388.8 thousand TEU.

    Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 119.9 thousand TEU, down 17.3% year-on-year.

    Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled 52 TEU, down 81.9% year-pm-year.
