Oboronlogistics Plans Acquiring Planes for the Arctic

  • Oboronlopgistics has announced plans to acquire planes to carry freight and passengers in the Arctic, the company said after visiting the MAKS-2021 the International Aviation and Space Salon.

The company’s experts got interested in the newest Il-114-300, LMS-901 Baikal and L 410 aircraft.

“Oboronlogistics is actively involved in the development of a strategy for the development of transport accessibility of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. The company is interested in acquiring aircrafts, which have technical characteristics that allow performing flights for the delivery of passengers and cargo to insufficiently prepared and airfields in the Arctic”, the company said in a statement.

Il-114-300 is a turboprop short-haul aircraft created to replace An-24 and Tu-134. It is adapted to work on short runways at poorly equipped airfields, including in the Arctic latitudes. Oboronlopgistics plans to purchase five Il-114-300 airplans. The agreement of intent between Oboronlogistika LLC and Ilyushin Aviation Complex PJSC was signed by the end of 2022 as part of the previous MAKS-2019 air show.

The new LMS-901 Baikal is to become the successor of the An-2, which has proven itself well in the conditions of the Far North on local airlines. This multi-purpose aircraft is capable to take off and land on unprepared runways.

L 410 is a twin-engine aircraft developed by a Czech design bureau for local air lines. It can be operated on unprepared dirt, grass, snow sites and airfields with short runways. Currently, the production of the L 410 is practically localized in Russia on the basis of the Ural Civil Aviation Plant in Yekaterinburg.

“Oboronlogistics considers these aircrafts as a base for creating its own passenger and cargo air fleet. Currently, the company is working on the issues of expanding the route network and opening new destinations in the northern regions of Russia. Air transportation of Oboronlogistics is provided by its subsidiary OBL-SERVICE. Specifics of the activity, geography of flights, experience in the transportation of various goods, as well as convenient prices for the transportation of commercial cargo distinguish the company from competitors,” the company said.
