Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports Up 3.4% in April 2021

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in April 2021 grew by 3.4% year-on-year. Export increased by 15.3%, cabotage by 88.9%. Import, on the contrary, declined by 18.4%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in April 2021 amounted to 0.06%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was down 17.4%. Reefer containers were non-existent in April. Imports made 51.5% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 36.8%, and cabotage for 9.9% of the total.

    Empty container traffic surged by 55.4%.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 79.3% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in April. Olya handled 20.7% of the total.
