Russian Railways have reported a 15.5% year-on-year increase in rail container traffic during January-April 2021. All in all, 2.5 mn TEU was carried during the period under report.
Domestic container traffic grew by 6.5% up to 784.2 thousand TEU, export was up 8.9% to 515.9 thousand TEU, import up 17.9% to 428.3 thousand TEU, while transit surged 1.6-fold up to more than 318.5 thousand TEU.
Laden container traffic made 1.4 mn TEU, up 22.8% year-on-year.
Commodity-wise, containerized grains grew the most, by 4.4-fold up to 13.5 thousand TEU.
Consumer goods were up 1.5-fold to 140.8 thousand TEU, hardware up 1.4-fold to 127.7 thousand TEU, machinery, engines and equipment by 1.4-fold up to 115.5 thousand TEU, non-ferrous ore and raw Sulphur up 1.5-fold to 11.8 thousand TEU.
Containerized fruit, vegetables and potatoes grew by 61.5% up to 4.2 thousand TEU, paper by 0.7% to 119.9 thousand TEU.
Containerized chemicals and soda were up 10.5% year-on-year to 248.2 thousand TEU, timber and woodwork up 6.7% to 181.6 thousand TEU, vehicles and parts up 31.4% to 91.4 thousand TEU, ferrous metals up 34% up to 80.1 thousand TEU, and non-ferrous metals up 17.5% to 50.5 thousand TEU.
Construction cargo transportation increased by 20.8% up to 41.3 thousand TEU, chemical and mineral fertilizers by 20.4% to 15.7 thousand TEU, metal structures by 20.1% to 5.3 thousand TEU, fish by 9.9% up to 7.8 thousand TEU, other food products by 25.5% up to 56.2 thousand TEU, other and LCL cargo by 32.5% up to 48.6 thousand TEU.
Containerized coal transportation that started in February this year made 7.6 thousand tons during January-April 2021.
Containerized oil and products were down 18.9% to 24.7 thousand TEU, meal and flour down 5.7% to 3.4 thousand TEU.
